coach's code of ethics

Each Warriors team is lead by a Head Coach and supported by Assistant Coaches. Head Coaches are responsible for ensuring that their teams practice and play in safe and inclusive environments where players are taught the fundamentals of full-tackle football through age appropriate coaching and training.
Their actions are guided by a commitment to demonstrate respect, integrity, accountability to ones self and team, good sportsmanship and fair play.
  • I UNDERSTAND that it is the responsibility of the Westshore Football Association (WSFA) Board of Directors to enforce this Code of Ethics, and that any violation of this Code of Ethics may result in a suspension of, or removal from coaching responsibilities at the direction of the WSFA Board of Directors. I also understand that this Code of Ethics is in addition to any Vancouver Island Canadian Football Association (VICFA) or BC Provincial Football Association (BCPFA) standard of conduct for coaches during games, and that if I am ejected from a game by a VICFA game referee it could also result in a suspension from future games.
  • I will not tolerate physical or emotional intimidation or abuse of any players, coaches, volunteers, referees or participants in Westshore Warriors football programs.
  • I will place the emotional and physical well being of all players above any desire to win.
  • I will remember to treat each player as an individual, remaining aware of the potentially large range of emotional and physical development of players in any one program.
  • I will do my very best to ensure practice and game environments are safe and inclusive for all players.
  • I will do my best to organize practices that are fun and challenging for all players.
  • I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and the highest levels of good sportsmanship.
  • I will ensure that I am knowledgeable in the rules of the game and familiar with the VICFA Handbook. I will teach these rules to all players.
  • I will use techniques and language appropriate for each of the skills and age groups in the program I coach.
  • I will remember that I am a coach of community level football and that Westshore Warriors football programs are designed to inspire youth to learn and grow within the sport of football, not for the benefit of a select few.
  • I will not attend any practices or games while under the influence of any controlled substance or alcohol.
  • I will refrain from using any tobacco products while in the presence of players or youth.
  • I will never use profanity, dismissive or belittling language while coaching.
  • I will introduce myself to field officials prior to the start of each game and uphold all aspects of the WSFA Parent & Player Code of Conduct during all games and practices.
  • I have completed all required coach training courses and have a clear Criminal Record Check allowing me to work with youth in BC.
